” We still have most of our revenues in B2C, but we also have a large B2B sales division that caters to many European countries. B2B tends to be much larger than B2C, and it’s a growth lever that we want to tap into more.”

About Notebooksbilliger.de
Notebooksbilliger.de is one of the largest German online electronics retailers renowned for its extensive range of high-quality products, competitive pricing, and exceptional customer service. Founded in 2002, the company has become one of the most trusted names in the electronics market across the DACH region. While the company primarily sells to consumers, it has also developed a substantial B2B sales division, catering to a variety of companies, from SMBs to public entities with a diverse range of new, innovative, and cutting-edge electronics products to meet their needs.
Unlocking the B2B electronics opportunity
The e-commerce market is massive and constantly growing, with vast opportunities still waiting to be seized. One area ripe for exploration is the B2B electronics market, which exceeds the B2C segment in size and growth rate. The B2B e-commerce market in Germany alone is a staggering 300 billion euros, twice as large as the B2C e-commerce market. For notebooksbilliger.de (NBB), a leading electronics retailer, tapping into this vast B2B potential has been a strategic priority.
The challenge
The primary challenge faced by NBB was the limitation imposed by cumbersome payment processes, which hindered their ability to effectively tap into the vast potential of the B2B market. As the company looked to expand its reach and cater to a larger number of business customers—potentially millions of SMBs across various countries—it became evident that its existing systems were not equipped or efficient enough to handle such scale.
After recognizing that these inefficiencies could impede their strategic expansion, NBB understood the necessity for a scalable, more efficient payment solution. This need was particularly acute in an environment where business transactions demanded both flexibility and speed. NBB’s existing systems, with their longer processing times and more manual processes, weren’t conducive to the dynamic and varied needs of business customers who expected more seamless, flexible and digital-first payment experiences similar to those they enjoy as consumers.
NBB decided against developing an in-house solution, which would be both time-consuming and resource-intensive, and instead opted to partner with Mondu.
“We needed a solution that scales, and that’s where we said, ‘Okay, that’s not something we want to develop on our own. That’s also not something that we try to scale in different countries.’- Martin Schwager
This approach allowed them to implement a robust, scalable solution that could adapt to different markets without the overhead and expertise required to develop and maintain such a system internally.
The solution
NBB’s partnership with Mondu marked a pivotal step in refining their payment processes to cater to the evolving needs of B2B buyers for a modern, flexible, B2C-like purchasing experience.
The implementation of Mondu’s invoice payment allowed NBB to offer net terms to all its B2B clients, regardless of the company type or legal form. Thus, NBB could cater to public entities as well as SMBs in a scalable and risk-free way.
The results
Mondu’s advanced risk checks enabled NBB to achieve a remarkable +93% approval rate, allowing NBB to safely serve its existing customer base as well as accept new business buyers, who might have been deemed too risky under less sophisticated screening processes.
Furthermore, NBB observed a substantial 30% increase in average order value (AOV). Notably, for transactions between €1,000 and €3,000, the AOV surged by 46%, underscoring the effectiveness of Mondu’s solution in encouraging higher-value purchases.
